An Adventure in Staybrite

The booklet "An Adventure in Staybrite" by "A Married Man" (namely Mr William Wiggin) and illustrated by Mr Leo Dowd, one of the leading artists of the "Punch" magazine, has been reprinted in exactly its original format for the Old Hall Club. When first published in 1934, for sixpence, it became an immediate success, as its simple, unaffected and delightfully lighthearted account of how Old Hall tableware had originated did a great deal to capture the interest of many housewives who had never previously heard of stainless steel. Copies of this booklet are now available from the Old Hall Club.

We had found two hefty sticks and scaled Castle Crag. At a dangerous drop I took her hand, but found the lads standing by - asking for ices! As we rested I took them to task over the presents. She smiled at them as though I did not count.

And there the mischief took root.

The fatal words fell in the usual quiet way, through her smile, and absolutely womanlike, "Why doesn't someone make silver things from STAYBRITE, like my new Cutlery ?" I filled and lit my pipe.

It isn't what these womenfolk ask for that matters so much, it's the ideas you get of what will please or help them that save the grey hairs.

And so I started to make "SILVER things from STAYBRITE" - just for her.
